Chelsea rejected Mudryk transfer approaches this summer, claims Fabrizio Romano
Chelsea reportedly rejected approaches from a number of clubs for Mykhailo Mudryk during the summer and had no interest in a quick exit for their big money winger according to Fabrizio Romano.
Mudryk has endured a difficult first year at Chelsea since making his €70 million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in January, with the Ukrainian international failing to score in 17 appearances in the second half of last season.
With Mudryk arriving for a large fee and with massive hype after Chelsea beat Arsenal to his signature, the 22-year-old’s slow start saw question marks over his signing, with some pundits believing that he would never adapt to English football.
BELIEF: Mudryk will become best player in the world, claim Chelsea
However, Romano stated on his YouTube channel that Chelsea never stopped believing in Mudryk and revealed that some teams had even hoped to capitalise on his poor form by signing him in the summer, but the Blues refused to budge.
“Mudryk is very happy in London, he has now settled at Chelsea and also in the training sessions and his personal life,” Romano said. “In the summer, some clubs started to approach Chelsea about him after a difficult start to the club but the answer was always the same
“From the board and the manager, they all together supported Mudryk and backed the player so there was never the case for Chelsea to let him leave.”
Chelsea reaping benefits of support for Mudryk
Chelsea’s faith in Mudryk slowly appears to be paying off, with the forward scoring three goals in his last five appearances for club and country and forcing his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up.
Mudryk began the season on the bench for Chelsea, failing to start any of their opening five games across all competitions but he has since been selected in five of Pochettino’s last six line-ups.
With Chelsea handing Mudryk an astonishing eight year contract upon his arrival, the chances of him leaving the club just six months into his time at Stamford Bridge was likely slim unless the Blues were willing to take a substantial loss.
