Leeds United have bizarrely told Real Madrid that they will have to pay €172 million in order to sign attacker Georginio Rutter.

The 22-year-old Frenchman has played an important role for Leeds in the Championship this season as they attempt to get promoted back to the Premier League.

He has scored two goals and made five assists in 13 league appearances.

This includes another assist in the 4-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, which means that Leeds are now third in the Championship table.

Rutter’s form has reportedly led to interest from some bigger clubs, leading to a somewhat bizarre admission from Leeds manager Daniel Farke about Real Madrid.

What did Farke say about Rutter?

“There’s always space for improvement,” Farke said of Rutter.

“He’s a young player and if he would be perfect in all areas, we would have to accept that Real Madrid would buy him for £150million.

“Thank God it’s not the case and he can grow and develop. But his potential is outstanding. He can be some player, one day.”

Rutter joined Leeds from Hoffenheim in January for a club record fee.

However, he struggled in the second half of last season, scoring no goals in 13 Premier League appearances as Leeds were relegated.

He has started this season well as Leeds try to go back up at the first attempt.
