Man Utd legend Rooney linked with surprise return to England
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney could make a managerial return to England with Birmingham City, according to a report.
The Red Devils legend began his coaching career with Derby County and managed to keep the turmoil-stricken club in the Championship in his first season in charge. However, with the Rams eventually entering into Administration and being relegated to League One, Rooney left.
The former striker returned to Washington DC, where he had spent a couple of years playing towards the end of his career, to take charge of legendary MLS side DC United, a club which themselves have fallen on tough times lately, though not comparable to Derby's struggles.

The original "dynasty" of MLS, DC United are now a shadow of the club that dominated the US league in its early era. The side have not made the MLS playoffs in the last four seasons and they are once again on the outside looking in, but to Rooney's credit, he has managed to bring excitement back to the capital.
His DC United deal expires in December, which is making him an attractive option, claims Football Insider.
Rooney to Birmingham?
Indeed, the outlet reports that Championship side Birmingham City could try to lure Rooney back to England. Prior to their 4-1 win over Huddersfield, Birmingham had been winless in six and they currently sit 12th in the table.
It is claimed that their American owners are weighing up axing John Eustace and replacing him with a big name. NFL megastar Tom Brady recently bought a minority stake in the Championship side with the ambition of taking them back to the Premier League.

Rooney fits the profile of what they are looking for and he will be available as things stand. There have thus far been no efforts on DC United's part to enter into negotiations over a contract extension with the England legend.
