Erik ten Hag was keen on signing Branthwaite during the most recent transfer window after being impressed by his form on loan at Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.

However, FootballTransfers exclusively reported at the start of August that Everton would not entertain any offers for the Englishman, despite interest from Old Trafford.

Everton turned down permanent bids from PSV in the summer as they want to keep hold of the talented centre-back.

The Daily Mail have now reported that Man Utd remain interested in signing Branthwaite, despite failing in their attempt to secure his services earlier this year.

Chris Wheeler has revealed that Branthwaite is one of the names on United’s radar following news of Lisandro Martinez’s recent injury.

FootballTransfers reported that Jean-Clair Todibo was Man Utd’s priority centre-back target this summer, but the Red Devils were unable to agree a deal with Nice to sign the Frenchman.

Their pursuit of Kim Min-jae ended in disappointment as well, with the defender joining Bayern Munich from Napoli despite interest from Ten Hag.

The Daily Mail have also reported that Benfica’s Antonio Silva and Todibo are both on Ten Hag’s shortlist alongside Branthwaite, while Man City are said to be keen on the Everton man too.

Branthwaite has played 90 minutes in the past five Premier League matches for the Toffees following his successful loan spell in the Netherlands.

Man Utd’s summer business

While they missed out on Branthwaite, Todibo and Kim, Man Utd did re-sign Jonny Evans on a free transfer following his Leicester City departure.

Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana all arrived at the club for more than €50m, while Altay Bayindir (5m), Sofyan Amrabat (loan) and Sergio Reguilon (loan) also moved to Old Trafford.
