EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal eye RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for January transfer window
Arsenal have Benjamin Sesko under consideration ahead of the January transfer window, FootballTransfers has been told.
The Gunners have a shortlist of possible targets to bring in as they look to sign a new striker and Sesko is a name that has been mentioned during discussions at the club, sources have informed us.
The RB Leipzig star hasn't been a regular this season due to competition from fellow new arrival Lois Openda, although he has netted six goals in just 547 minutes of action so far this year.
The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in the club’s 2-1 Bundesliga defeat to Wolfsburg this weekend.
Sesko moved to Leipzig from RB Salzburg over the summer, though the deal was announced back in 2022.
The youngster signed a five-year contract, until 2028, after a fee of €24 million was paid. It’s not clear if RB Leipzig would be open to offers for the striker at this point, but his fine form in the Austrian Bundesliga had alerted a number of Premier League clubs before his move to Germany, including Manchester United and Newcastle.
Arsenal's strikers targets
News of Arsenal's interest in Sesko comes after our story that they are weighing up moves for both Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic and Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo.
As revealed, Arsenal like Leonardo and sent scouts out to watch the 20-year-old over the summer. The Santos striker is set for a move to Europe next year and has already attracted a number of interested clubs.
The club are open to bringing in the youngster as well as Dusan Vlahovic, who could depart Juventus in the winter window, as their leading No.9s.
Juventus spent €70m for Vlahovic back in January 2022 after the Serbian scored a Serie A-record 33 goals in the calendar year of 2021. His current deal ends in Turin ends 2026, but it’s thought that they are trying to tie the 23-year-old down to a new contract.
