Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea are now officially out of the race to sign Gabriel Moscardo as PSG push to secure his signature.

The youngster has been at the heart of a turbulent saga in recent days. Reports in Brazil asserted earlier in the week that Chelsea had managed to strike a €25/26 million deal with Corinthians for the 18-year-old defensive midfielder. It came out of nowhere and made little sense given that the Blues already boast a wealth of talent in that position.

Unsurprisingly, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano was quick to dismiss these rumours. The following day, he revealed that it was not Chelsea but rather PSG who were most keen on snapping up the Brazilian wonderkid. He announced that the Ligue 1 giants are about to open talks with Corinthians over a potential deal.

The expectation is that Moscardo will depart his Brazilian side in January 2024 after the Serie A season concludes and he will do so for a club-record fee. Now, Romano has shed light on PSG's pursuit and claimed that Chelsea will not make a move to hijack the deal.

What did Romano say?

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian said: "From what I'm hearing, Chelsea are currently out of the race. Chelsea considered Moscardo last summer in August, had some contacts in recent months, but never presented a new proposal and they have no intention to enter the race for Moscardo."

"At least this is the situation now, let's see [what will happen] in the next weeks...What is important to say about Gabriel Moscardo is that many clubs are [in the race], from England too, so there are other English clubs, but PSG are really pushing"

"PSG had a meeting with the agents of the player. PSG have been tracking the player for a long time in Brazil and the idea is to open talks with Corinthians soon. Corinthians want something around €25m. PSG will have a discussion to understand the final package for Moscardo, but now they are pushing."
