Real Madrid rocked by Liverpool Mbappe revelation

Real Madrid face a very real threat from Liverpool over signing Kylian Mbappe as a free agent next summer, according to a report.

Los Blancos have long been cast as favourites to land the PSG and France superstar on a free transfer when his contract ends with Les Parisiens at the end of June.

But Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool remain interested in the player and are even quietly confident that they will be able to complete a major surprise and land the 24-year-old, who finished third in the 2023 Ballon d’Or voting.

L’Equipe details the optimism of the Anfield club.

“The Reds have never broken contact with the Paris native's entourage for several years. Even before he signed for PSG in the summer of 2017, the English club had already started to advance its pawns to try to convince the Frenchman,” the report states before detailing how Jurgen Klopp held a meeting with the player that summer on the Cote d’Azur.

“Since then, Liverpool have always believed in their chances of bringing Mbappé to the Premier League. It would be a surprise to see him there next season, but in football more than anywhere else, the truth of November is often very far from that of June.”

Who will sign Mbappe?

Mbappe has yet to make a decision over his future, with L’Equipe adding that Real Madrid do not expect to hear significant progress over the striker’s future in the first quarter of 2024. The player’s focus, it is stated, will be on the football field.

PSG, meanwhile, remain optimistic that Mbappe will sign another contract extension, despite the two parties experiencing a summer arm wrestle that saw the forward frozen out of a pre-season tour and the opening Ligue 1 match of the season.

It is said that the player’s relationship with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi will be key to the deal if he does ultimately stay.

Mbappe, meanwhile, has responded well from his summer tug of war, scoring 12 goals in 12 games.
