Liverpool are alongside Barcelona in the race to sign wonderkid Patrick Dorgu, according to TEAMtalk.

Dorgu has impressed in 12 appearances for Serie A side Lecce in the 2023-24 campaign.

At 19, the left-back would sign for Liverpool as the long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

The Reds' current alternative in that position is Kostas Tsimikas - who is not capable of filling Robertson's shoes.

The Greek defender can provide some of the Scotsman's attacking output but is often a defensive liability.

Whereas, given Dorgu's age, Klopp would look to mold him into the player he desires over the coming years.

After all, Robertson is only 29 and under contract until 2026, so time would be on Dorgu's side.

Can Liverpool sign Dorgu in January?

Liverpool will struggle to get a deal for Dorgu over the line in the January transfer window.

Lecce sporting director Stefano Trinchera has said that the left-back will not be allowed to leave.

"Dorgu is making waves and the more time passes, the more his value increases," he told Pianeta Lecce. "In January he will remain with us.

"It is too early to make considerations about his future, but Dorgu is now being watched by major European clubs. I wouldn’t talk about the price tag of a boy who is growing day by day."

And Dorgu's agent has confirmed said interest in his client, telling SportItalia: "Interest is [coming] from many sides. England, Spain, Germany... From different countries they try to contact me.

"When the time comes [to transfer clubs] we will know what to do.

"He is young and we want him to develop calmly and waiting for the right moment, which will come. That is certain."
