Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in Bundesliga star
Liverpool’s interest in Leroy Sane is ‘concrete’ with the winger yet to agree a contract extension at Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The German’s current deal with the Bundesliga giants ends in 2025 and there is no indication yet that he will sign a new one. Now Christian Falk has admitted that the Reds’ interest is definitely there ahead of next year, following FootballTransfers’ story in the summer exclusively revealing that the club had made the winger a target.
“Liverpool’s interest in Leroy Sane is concrete,” Falk told his Caught Offside Daily Briefing. “You can compare him to the man he might end up replacing at Anfield in Mo Salah; they both have speed and Sane is certainly younger. Bayern Munich are aware of the interest and after the international break, they will meet the agents, LIAN Sports Group, to talk about an extension.
Falk continued: “They really want to keep him and Sane said that Bayern is the first club he will be talking to. His family has arrived in Munich after their new house was built and the player is feeling happy.”
What has Sane said about his future?
Sane has enjoyed a great campaign for Bayern so far this season, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 18 appearances for the German outfit.
It is believed that his style of play, rapid pace, and ability to contribute goals make him a viable successor to Mohamed Salah, whose future at Anfield looks uncertain amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
The 27-year-old spoke about his future while on international duty with Germany. He replied: “I haven’t given it any thought. The club wants to have discussions but at the moment I want to concentrate on the season. Bayern will be my first point of contract, everything else will take care of itself,” he said.
“I am taking on more and more responsibility, on and off the pitch. I really like the role and position at the moment. Julian [Nagelsmann] knows me very well and I want to repay that with good performances.”
