Lukaku expects Liverpool wonderkid target to 'become better than me'

Romelu Lukaku is very pleased with the development of Johan Bakayoko at PSV, the 30-year-old striker revealed in a conversation with PSV TV.

The AS Roma attacker even expects that the 20-year-old winger of the Eindhoven team will be able to rise above his own level in the long term. In addition to that, Lukaku also discussed the vision of coach Peter Bosz and said he was impressed with the game played by the Dutch coach at PSV.

Bakayoko has starred for PSV this season, with his outings earning him links to the likes of Liverpool and PSG. Speaking to PSV club media, Lukaku discussed the performances of Bakayoko, with whom he plays for the Belgian national team.

“At PSV they are doing a very good job with him,” said Lukaku, who indicated that the Belgian Red Devils are concerned about young, upcoming talent such as Bakayoko. “I also told him that he is a beautiful player to watch, but also that he has to link his imagination and creativity to goals and assists. Then you will become a world-class player.”

The sky is the limit for Bakayoko

“For Johan personally, I hope that he can continue like this and that he listens carefully to the tips that the coach gives him. The sky is the limit for him."

"I really think that in the long term, he will become better than me and, together with [Man City's] Jérémy Doku, will become one of the leaders of the [Belgian] team” said Lukaku. Bakayoko has only played in 21 official matches for PSV's senior team and already produced 11 assists and 3 goals.

Lukaku also discussed the role of Peter Bosz, who is very important to Bakayoko. The Roma man spoke highly of the former coach of Ajax and Olympique Lyon. “I have always been a fan of his playing style.”

“PSV are doing so well this season, they have not lost yet and are therefore favourites for the title. As a fan of football, I like that things are a little different in the Netherlands now.”
