Eberechi Eze will not be moving to Manchester City in the foreseeable future after signing a new contract at Crystal Palace.

City had targeted Eze in the summer transfer window, as an alternative to West Ham's Lucas Paqueta - whose potential transfer collapsed.

Palace were adamant that the England international would stay at Selhurst Park and he has now committed his future to the club by signing a three-and-a-half year deal.

Having arrived from QPR in 2020 for a £16 million fee, Eze has become a fan favourite in South London with his impressive flair and creativity.

The England international would surely command a fee close to £100m in today's market, with a similar reputation as Jack Grealish in his Aston Villa days.

The 25-year-old looks to be staying at Palace for a while, though, alongside the likes of Michael Olise and Marc Guehi.

City boss Pep Guardiola will have to look elsewhere for his next attack-minded star.

Paqueta transfer collapse

Man City were close to signing Lucas Paqueta before the West Ham star’s future was thrown into uncertainty over a potential breach of betting rules.

Paqueta was targeted by Guardiola as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who left for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli earlier in the window, and City were in negotiations with the Hammers over a deal.

Indeed, a fee of £85 million had been agreed before the FA informed West Ham that Paqueta would be investigated over suspicious betting patterns.

The Brazilian was keen on a move to the Etihad but, after the collapse of the transfer, it seems as though his future lies in East London.
