Pep Guardiola has been tipped to succeed Gareth Southgate as England manager after Euro 2024 by both Gabby Agbonlahor and former Oasis star Noel Gallagher, the latter an avowed Man City fan.

Gareth Southgate's job as manager wouldn't appear to be under any immediate pressure having steered the Three Lions to qualification for next summer's competition in Germany with an undefeated record and 20 of a possible 24 points in Group C.

But failure to end England's major trophy drought, which stretches back to the 1966 World Cup on home turf, with what many consider another golden generation, could spell the end of his tenure.

As might victory, with nothing left to achieve… and that is this dynamic at club level that has led Agbonlahor to speculate that Guardiola might be ready to take the England job on next year.

Guardiola 'might enjoy' the England job

"I think every England fan out there will say that if Southgate doesn't win it, then he's got to go," the thrice-capped former forward told talkSPORT. "If Pep was available, would you agree that he'd do a better job?

"How do we know he's not done everything he wants to do in club football? He's done it at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, now Man City. He might enjoy [it]."

Guardiola won the continental treble with City last season, becoming the only manager to do so twice having led Barca to the same heights in 2009.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was offered, and took, the England job," said Gallagher on the same show last week - although he speculated that a sabbatical might be required first with City unlikely to let him move directly.

Guardiola, a Catalan so perhaps less inclined to take the Spain job, is under contract at the Emirates until 2025 have extended his deal last November.
