Fabrizio Romano has detailed what really went on between Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford and manager Erik ten Hag after the former was left out of the squad that travelled to Fulham on Saturday.

Rashford was absent as a late goal from Bruno Fernandes helped to ease the pressure on Ten Hag after a poor start to the season thanks to a 1-0 Premier League win.

This came following a 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League, after which it emerged that Rashford had stayed out until 3am at a party.

There were rumours when the 26-year-old England striker was absent from the panel to face Fulham that he had been dropped for disciplinary reasons, with Ten Hag noted for his hard-line approach even with star players. Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have notably suffered in the past.

Romano, though, has explained what really went on between the two.

Romano on Rashford and Ten Hag situation

“I think it’s important to clarify what really happened around Marcus Rashford,” he explained on his YouTube channel. “After the Manchester derby, Marcus Rashford decided to go party during that night. But what happened deserves to be explained because we have to be respectful with the details of the story.

“Erik ten Hag, ahead of the Fulham game, said it’s unacceptable. But I spoke to Marcus Rashford and he apologised and it’s all good. He’s fighting, he’s with us, he’s part of the time 100%.

“Then the following day, Rashford was not part of the Man Utd squad to face Fulham. But it was only related to an injury. Not relating to the party.

“Rashford had an injury and he will be back with the squad very soon. That’s the plan. His absence was absolutely not due to disciplinary reasons.

It was only related to an injury. Not relating to the party.

“It’s important to clarify that it was a birthday party and not an external party. It was a very intimate party with his close friends. He was training regularly with the squad the following day. He was really respectful.

“It’s all good between Rashford and Ten Hag, this is important to clarify.”

Rashford could, therefore, be back for the midweek encounter against Copenhagen in the Champions League or failing that the clash with Luton in the Premier League next weekend.
