Man Utd takeover latest: Ratcliffe announcement update as Arnold leave

The Manchester United takeover saga is set to be concluded imminently, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority takeover of 25% of the club set to be made official soon.

For a year, Man Utd supporters have been eagerly awaiting a change in ownership, with Ratcliffe finally set to make inroads into the Glazers’ monopoly over the club. His Ineos group has seen off a challenge from Sheikh Jassim, a Qatari businessman who wanted to buy the entire business but failed to match the asking price of the American brothers.

According to Sky News City editor Mark Kleinman, there is finally set to be concrete movement with regards the sale of the club, with CEO Richard Arnold set to be the first victim of the new regime.

Taking to X, previously known at Twitter, he said: “Richard Arnold, the Manchester United Football Club CEO, is to leave the club by the end of the year. An announcement will be made later today and will come shortly before Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Sport confirms the acquisition of a 25% stake in the club.”

New era for Man Utd

The news will greeted with joy by Man Utd supporters, who have seen the club stagnate under the Glazers’ ownership.

The Red Devils have not been serious Premier League title contenders since the retirement of the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 and are already off the pace at the top of the table this term, despite significant investment in the playing staff.

Ratcliffe, who also owns Nice and Lausanne, will take command of the sporting structure of Man Utd and is expected to shake this area of the club up, with a revolution coming in terms of recruitment and football management.

Manager Erik ten Hag does not appear to be in any imminent danger, yet if United’s results and performances don’t pick up, the Dutchman could find himself in trouble.
