Griezmann breaks silence on Man Utd transfer rumours: I need to be happy
Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann has broken his silence over transfer rumours linking him to Manchester United and also the prospect of signing a new deal with Diego Simeone’s side.
The France international star has been one of the form players in world football this season, scoring 12 goals in 16 outings for the capital side.
As such, Griezmann has been one of the stars linked with a possible move to the Red Devils in order to bolster their misfiring attack. With a release clause of just €25 million, his future is effectively in his own hands because at that price he is a bargain.
Indeed, it was reported this week that the Old Trafford side could triple his wages in order to lure him to the club.
Man Utd are set to be disappointed by his words to Marca, though.
Griezmann: I'm playing my best football
“I need to be happy off the field to be happy on it. And my teammates, the coach, the physiotherapists, the stewards help me with that… there is very good chemistry between them. And the connection with the fans, which I got back and now you can see I'm more relaxed and happier playing. It’s thanks to all this that we see the best version of my game,” he explained.
Griezmann went on to explain how his new-found maturity is helping both himself and the team.
“Over the years, we know when we play well or badly. When you're younger, you don't have this tendency to look at what your team needs, where you can hurt the opponent,” he said. “Over the years, we realise and pay more attention to these details because, with them, we can help win matches. What I like most is watching the matches, the rivals, the teammates… mixing it up to win the matches.”
Atletico Madrid and Griezmann are in action on Saturday against Mallorca as they aim to keep in touch with the team at the top of LaLiga.
