'Not scoring, not assisting' - Man Utd legend slams Mason Mount
Manchester United legend Louis Saha believes that Mason Mount is getting an easy ride from the media despite his lack of impact.
The England midfielder arrived after a fairly lengthy transfer saga from Chelsea in the summer, with the Red Devils shelling out a whopping €64 million despite him only having a year left on his deal and no intention to extend at the time of the move.
It was, in many ways, symbolic of Man Utd's transfer business under Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman had his heart set on signing the 24-year-old and was determined to bring him in even if it meant paying over the odds, similar to the Antony deal that saw the club pay an utterly outrageous €95m to land the Ajax winger in 2022.

Like Antony, Mount has not had much of an impact at Old Trafford. Unlike Antony, however, the midfielder is not being viciously criticised by the media. At least that's what club legend Louis Saha believes to be the case - and he is perplexed by it.
What did Saha say?
Speaking to Betfred, Saha said: “I get asked a lot to comment on players, especially the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony, but is there some sort of protection over Mason Mount? Mason should have an important role in this team, but nobody can understand his impact."
“I think there may be a misunderstanding about where Mount fits into the team positionally. When he plays in the centre of midfield, he seems like he’s too far advanced up the pitch when he should be protecting pockets of space that leave his team exposed. I personally don’t understand his position."

“Mason Mount should be a big player for Manchester United like Marcus Rashford or Antony, so I don’t understand why those two get the intense criticism but Mason doesn’t when he’s not performing at all. He’s not scoring goals, he’s not assisting and nobody’s speaking about it. I just don’t understand it.”
