Man Utd defender Varane’s relationship with Ten Hag broken after Evans decision
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has fallen out with Raphael Varane after the central defender was dropped last month.
The Daily Mail reports that Varane was unhappy to not play in the Manchester derby when Jonny Evans was chosen ahead of him, and also when Victor Lindelof was selected to play alongside Harry Maguire against Luton Town two weeks ago. “Maguire took his chance when Varane was absent. When the moment is there, you take it and the other has to fight back,” Ten Hag told beIN Sports after the Premier League encounter.
After the game against Manchester City, it’s believed that a spat between the coach and the player ensued, with Varane making just three substitute appearances since then. Now his future seems very uncertain.
Varane has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, as well as Casemiro, and when Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion investment is ratified, it’s thought that the Ineos chief will look to move them on.
How much did Man Utd pay for Casemiro and Varane
Man Utd paid Real Madrid a combined £112million for Casemiro and Varane, who moved to the club on long-term deals.
Casemiro, who's out until Christmas with a hamstring injury, has struggled this season and has shown signs that he is well and truly past his best years. Varane, meanwhile, has not been able to secure much game time and has fallen down the pecking order for Ten Hag.
It has been reported that Bayern Munich are willing to take Varane to Germany for around £25million, but the trouble is the player’s hefty wages of around £340,000 a week. It’s a similar problem have for the aging Casemiro, who is more than likely to leave, if not this window then the next one.
