Chelsea flop Werner's transfer stance revealed amid Real Madrid links
German media has doused cold water on the rumours linking Timo Werner with a spectacular January move to Real Madrid.
The RB Leipzig striker is out of favour in Saxony's largest city, a feeling all too familiar for the 27-year-old who went down as one of Chelsea's biggest flops when the €53 million man headed back to Germany for just €20m in 2022.
Werner has plummeted down the attacking pecking order at Leipzig after the big-money summer arrivals of star striker Lois Openda and wonderkid Benjamin Sesko. So far this term, he has only racked up 370 minutes of football, mostly coming off the bench under head coach Marco Rose.
This has given rise to mounting speculation that the German could be on his way out in January. With Euro 2024 on home soil coming up, the forward is keen to play himself into contention for the starting role at centre-forward for Germany, something he can only do if he actually gets on the pitch at club level.
Linked to an increasingly 'desperate' West Ham and even to Real Madrid as a short-term Vinicius Jr injury replacement, Werner will have no shortage of suitors should Leipzig make him available - but does he actually want to leave?
Werner's transfer stance
BILD is not so sure. According to the German outlet, Werner is in no way considering leaving the Red Bulls at this stage. He is more focused on winning back his place in the team.
The report asserts that his time at Chelsea was a major eye-opener for him. Werner did not enjoy the constant media scrutiny and living in a massive city, preferring the more 'familial' environment of Leipzig.
Werner is the Red Bulls' record goalscorer and still enjoys the support of the fanbase despite his persistent injuries, having already had three different fitness issues this season which have contributed to his lack of game time.
At this point, the supposed interest from Premier League sides and Madrid is not something that Werner is taking particularly seriously.
