'Desperate' West Ham turn to Chelsea flop to fix scoring woes

West Ham will "thoroughly explore" the possibility of signing Timo Werner in January, according to a report.
The German forward headed back to his home country after a dire spell at Chelsea that saw him go down as one of the club's biggest flop signings given that the Blues had spent a whopping €53 million on him.
RB Leipzig brought the 27-year-old back in the summer of 2022 for just €20m, but his fortunes haven't improved much since. Particularly this season, Werner finds himself at the very bottom of Leipzig's attacking pecking order following the arrivals of Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko.
Once Germany's great hope at centre-forward, Werner is now no more than a rotation player and has only featured in 370 minutes for the Red Bulls so far this term. This has given rise to rumours that he could be on the move in January, a possibility not ruled out by the club's sporting director Rouven Schroder.
Several Premier League sides have been linked with the Chelsea flop and one club in particular is said to be seriously considering signing Werner.
'Desperate' West Ham
According to TEAMtalk, West Ham and David Moyes are getting desperate in their search for a reliable centre-forward, with the Hammers currently not boasting much in the way of attacking potential.
This season, winger Jarrod Bowen leads the London side's goalscoring charts with nine, followed by midfielders Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta with five each.
West Ham will enquire about the conditions of a potential loan deal and a lot will depend on Leipzig's demands. Werner is keen to resurrect his career ahead of Euro 2024 on home soil for which Germany still lack a guaranteed starter at centre-forward.
The versatile forward reportedly earns €10m per season at Leipzig. Recently, sensational reports in Spain had also linked the German with a shock move to Real Madrid as a short-term injury replacement for Vinicius Jr.
