EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal leave door open for Crystal Palace to make second Eddie Nketiah approach
Crystal Palace's pursuit of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah remains active despite a setback with the initial proposal, FootballTransfers can reveal.
Sources have disclosed that the Gunners remain open to the sale of the striker but wish to bring in a replacement - or have one lined up at least - before they allow their academy graduate to depart.
The proposed move hit a roadblock earlier in the week when the initial offer from Crystal Palace was rejected by Arsenal, but the suggestion is that the Eagles are undeterred and a transfer could still come to fruition.
Despite reports that the 24-year-old is not for sale in the winter window, we are told that he will be free to move on for the right price and if Arsenal manage to secure the services of another No.9.
Who are Arsenal’s transfer targets?
The North London club are actively exploring potential options in the transfer market to ensure a smooth transition before allowing Nketiah to depart - with Benjamin Sesko, Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, and Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo, all liked. There could be room to bring in both an elite striker and someone like Leonardo who can develop.
Though Arsenal must comply with FFP regulations, the hope is that they can succeed in bringing in some new blood to freshen up their attack. Any possible exit of Nketiah would help see that realised.
Following a 2-0 defeat to West Ham, Mikel Arteta's team slipped to second place in the Premier League, with Gabriel Jesus missing two golden opportunities. Mikel Arteta faces a dilemma as defensive reinforcements are needed due to injuries to Jurrien Timber, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Thomas Partey.
Last season’s runners-up will face Fulham on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
