David Raya has been heavily criticised for his role in Luton Town’s second and third goals

The Spaniard is currently on loan at Mikel Arteta’s side after a one-year deal was agreed with Brentford, and the Gunners have an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Following his arrival, Arteta opted to drop Aaron Ramsdale and Raya is now Arsenal’s clear first-choice goalkeeper.

With Arsenal 2-1 up at Kenilworth Road, Luton came back into the game shortly after half-time when Elijah Adebayo headed home from a Alfie Doughty corner.

While Raya could do nothing about the first corner Arsenal conceded from, Adebayo’s goal was at least partly his fault. The Spaniard failed to claim the cross and was weak in his jump as he was beaten to the ball by Adebayo, who netted his first Premier League goal to make it 2-2.

12 minutes later, Ross Barkley put Luton 3-2 ahead and Raya was certainly to blame for this goal.

Although the former Chelsea man was excellent in the build-up, his eventual left-footed shot squirmed underneath Raya and into the back of the net. Kai Havertz spared his blushes with an equaliser just three minutes later, but that doesn’t take away from the huge error made by Raya.

It was only Luton's fourth shot on target in the game and it was their third goal.

Fans of Arsenal and rival clubs have not held back with their criticism of Raya on X, formerly known as Twitter.
