The five Arsenal players who could leave in January
Arsenal spent lavishly in the summer of 2023.
The Gunners will look to again make a splash in 2024 as they seek to reinforce their squad to keep up their title challenge for as long as possible. Linked with the likes of Ivan Toney, Dusan Vlahovic, Douglas Luiz and Joao Palhinha, Mikel Arteta and Edu have big plans for this year.
However, after spending some €232 million on new recruits in the summer, players will have to leave for Arsenal to be able to bring in big-name signings. Here are five stars who could depart the Emirates in January.
Aaron Ramsdale
Aaron Ramsdale has been relegated to Arsenal's number two since the arrival of David Raya and the goalkeeper has been frequently linked with a January departure.
While the Gunners would prefer to keep Ramsdale around until at least the summer, there is a chance that he could depart if the right offer comes in. The Gunners would entertain bids in the region of €58m, as FootballTransfers has exclusively revealed. Chelsea could be a possible destination for the shot-stopper, though Djordje Petrovic has done an admirable job in the absence of Robert Sanchez.
Jakub Kiwior
Despite only arriving last January, Jakub Kiwior could already be on his way out, albeit only temporarily, this month. Heavily courted by Serie A clubs, the Pole is being continuously linked with a loan move to Italy.
Both AC Milan and Napoli have been credited with a concrete interest in the defender and while the Gunners have thus far held firm, Kiwior could yet depart in January in search of a starting spot. There have even been sensational reports that Milan could sell Fikayo Tomori to Man Utd and sign Kiwior as a permanent replacement in 2024.
Thomas Partey
The Gunners were intent on keeping hold of Thomas Partey in the summer, but the way his season has gone has made it clear that they should have cashed in on him. The 30-year-old has spent a lot of time on the treatment table and when he has been fit, he has been shoehorned into a right-back role.
Juventus and Saudi clubs were interested in the summer and both will be in the mix again in 2024, with the Bianconeri eyeing a replacement for the banned Paul Pogba. Partey could be offloaded to fund a move for Douglas Luiz or Joao Palhina, who will both command a pretty penny in January.
Cedric Soares
The textbook definition of a squad player, Cedric Soares is finding game time hard to come by at Arsenal. The 32-year-old right-back has featured just twice for the Gunners so far this season and has not played a single minute of Premier League football.
As FootballTransfers was able to confirm, Villarreal hold a credible interest in the Portuguese and have been weighing up a January move. Soares has often been linked with a departure and this month could finally be the time for him to leave.
Mohamed Elneny
Arsenal's forgotten man, Mohamed Elneny is actually still around. A vestige of the Arsene Wenger era, the 31-year-old has made four appearances so far this season and is out of contract in the summer.
Last year, the Gunners surprisingly handed him a one-year extension, but it does not seem as though history will repeat itself in 2024. Selling him in January could yield a small transfer fee and several unnamed Saudi clubs are said to be interested in the Egyptian.
