Gary Neville blasts Liverpool atmosphere as 'worst he's ever seen'
Gary Neville has torn into the Liverpool atmosphere on Sunday evening as his side went toe-to-toe with Jurgen Klopp’s men.
At Anfield, the two clubs faced off - but the former Red Devils defender, on co-commentary, claimed he was unhappy with how quiet it was.
He said: “This is the worst atmosphere is seen from a Manchester United, Liverpool game – it’s never been as quiet is the worse atmosphere I’ve seen at Anfield."
Anfield is known as a fortress but it seemed surprisingly subdued in the first-half at least.
Man Utd managed to keep Liverpool at bay in the first-half, nullifying their attacks. The Reds struggled to find that final ball to secure the opening goal in that time.
Erik ten Hag has endured a poor run of form as Man Utd boss in recent weeks and there are murmurs that another loss would seal his exit from the side.
Man Utd were dumped out of the Champions League last week after losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich. They are also out of the League Cup after losing to Newcastle at Old Trafford. In the Premier League, things aren’t looking good either - the club sit in seventh position at the time of writing and would need to pick up a good run of form in the second half of the season to ensure that they can re-enter the Champions League.
Captain Scott McTominay
It comes after Ten Hag praised Scott McTominay's leadership qualities after announcing that the Scotsman would be the captain for the derby.
McTominay was given the armband, with Bruno Fernandes out through suspension.
Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “I think he is one of the examples of what it means to play for Manchester United to play with the badge on his heart. And that is as an example. And the others can take that. and so they can build on him.
“And I'm sure he will be the communicator. I'm sure he will be the example of desire and passion. And I think especially that you need in this game.”
