Liverpool battle Klopp's ex-club Dortmund in Dutch wonderkid race
Liverpool have joined the race to sign Benfica wonderkid Kyanno Lorenzo Silva, according to a report.
However, the Premier League giants face competition from Atalanta and Borussia Dortmund, who have also contacted the Portuguese side about a possible transfer.
The 18-year-old winger has made a big impression on the scouts of the three clubs, who have watched him during matches of the Benfica youth team and the Netherlands U19s.
Lorenzo Silva is out of contract at the end of this season and therefore will be able to get picked up for a relatively modest amount. This season, he has made nine appearances for Benfica's U23s, six of which were in the league and three in the UEFA Youth League. The youngster has scored two goals in 303 minutes of football.
Silva to Liverpool?
Lorenzo Silva was picked up by Sparta Rotterdam in the summer of 2017 from the youth of SC Feyenoord, the amateur branch of the club from south Rotterdam. Four years later, Benfica decided to acquire the attacker.
In Portugal, he became a youth international of the Dutch team earlier this year, but Lorenzo Silva has not yet made his debut for the main squad of the reigning Portuguese champions.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have already approached Benfica regarding a potential deal for the youngster as a compensation fee would be due even if he were to move after the expiration of his deal.
At Liverpool, the right winger would face competition from some very big talents. Liverpool's Under 21s include Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon. The former made his debut at the highest level for Celtic in January 2022 at the age of 16 in a league match against Dundee United and has been a regular fixture in senior training and matchday squads at Liverpool.
