Anthony Martial’s Manchester United career is coming to an end after it was reported that his contract will not be extended next summer.

The Frenchman is set to become a free agent in July and David Ornstein has revealed that Man Utd will decide against activating the one-year extension clause in his current deal.

As a result, the Red Devils have admitted they would rather see Martial leave on a free transfer than keep him at the club for one more season.

Given his form in recent years, that decision is not particularly surprising.

After netting 17 Premier League goals during the 2019-20 season, Martial’s form took a turn for the worse and he is currently enduring a torrid spell in front of goal that has seen him score just 19 times in his past 95 Man Utd appearances.

His Red Devils career never really lit up the way many expected it would after a Ballon d’Or clause was included in his move from AS Monaco and a debut goal to remember against Liverpool.

Martial is now 28 years old and he needs to pick his next club very carefully to ensure a fresh start gives him the best chance of success.

His career has hit a roadblock at Old Trafford and an exit in 2024 is the best thing for everyone involved. But, which club should he join as a free agent next summer?

Who should Martial sign for?

Data analytics experts SciSports believe that West Ham United would be the best move that Martial could make next summer.

SciSports’ Career Advice tool takes into account several different factors - including playing time and potential development - and West Ham rank as Martial’s ideal next club if he does end up leaving Man Utd.

The Hammers have used Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen through the middle in recent weeks, with Michail Antonio sidelined with a knee injury, and it’s not a position that suits either player perfectly.

A push to sign Martial therefore makes sense as there is a logical place for him in West Ham’s starting XI.

The Frenchman’s time at Man Utd is set to come to a sour end in 2024, but there is still a very good player in there and if David Moyes is able to extract Martial’s potential, then he would be an excellent signing for West Ham, especially on a free.
