Man Utd striker target is 'one to watch' for January - Romano

Manchester United target Donyell Malen will be 'one to watch' in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Borussia Dortmund attacker is keen to leave the Bundesliga. Unhappy about being played on the right wing and the general situation at the club, which has been rocked by recent reports of a player mutiny - allegedly led by Marco Reus - against coach Edin Terzic, Malen has been linked with an exit for several weeks.

Initially, reports had suggested that a swap deal would be on the cards for the 24-year-old. Borussia Dortmund hold a tentative interest in re-signing Jadon Sancho, while Man Utd are keen to get rid of him and bolster their attack. However, at this stage, it is clear that a deal is unrealistic. Nevertheless, the Red Devils remain interested in Malen.

The Dutchman recently switched representatives, signing with Erik ten Hag's agency SEG, which now handles most of the transfer business at Old Trafford, and Dortmund won't stand in his way - at the right price. The Black and Yellow are keen to recoup their original €30 million outlay.

Malen 'one to watch'

Speaking about Man Utd's need for attacking reinforcements, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the Red Devils' pursuit of Malen and former Chelsea flop Timo Werner.

"I think we have to keep an eye on the striker position," he told GIVEMESPORT. "That's the important one because they spoke to different representatives and intermediaries."

"They held discussions with people close to Timo Werner, for example, at Leipzig. Timo Werner will be open to returning to the Premier League in general, so he could be one of the candidates."
