Manchester United are actively pursuing a centre-forward for the January transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that Erik ten Hag’s side have held talks with three possible signings.

Man Utd have failed to score in their last three games and have been desperately short of firepower this season, with Scott McTominay their leading scorer on six goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, frontline forwards such as Rasmus Hojlund, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Antony have been desperately disappointing, particularly in the Premier League.

Ten Hag’s problem is set to be addressed in January, even Sir Jim Ratcliffe has failed thus far to successfully complete his 25% minority buyout of the club.

FootballTransfers revealed that Man Utd are examining a possible move for Galatasaray forward Mauro Icardi in January, while Romano has confirmed that they have already held talks with at least three forwards.

“They are speaking to the agents of some strikers - they had conversations also with Anthony Martial to try to understand his future, because it looks likely he will leave as a free agent in the summer, or he could leave in January and in that case United are exploring options,” Romano says.

“I’m told they have spoken to the representatives of Donyell Malen and other strikers around Europe like Timo Werner and Serhou Guirassy. So, many players are on the list for United up front.”

Romano sends Man Utd fans ‘super top players’ message

Man Utd, though, are unlikely to be very active in the transfer market, with one or two tweaks to the team made rather than any blockbuster additions to the team arriving at a delicate moment.

“It could be one signing, it could be two, but Man United are looking for opportunities,” the football transfer news specialist says.

“From what I’m hearing, it is true that Man United don’t expect to be going for super top players, but my understanding is that they are actively working on potential new signings.”

“Overall, United remain active in the process to find opportunities, so you don’t have to 100% trust when people like John Murtough say they’re not going to do anything in January.”

Following a scoreless draw with Liverpool at the weekend, Man Utd are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they face West Ham.
