Van de Beek transfer done: Romano announces HERE WE GO!
Donny van de Beek has sealed his exit from Manchester United during the January transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano announcing that the Netherlands international will sign for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Van de Beek has been pursuing a move away from Old Trafford for weeks, with it having become apparent that he is not in manager Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Hampered by injury once more this season, he has featured on only two occasions for the Old Trafford club this term, totalling just 21 minutes.
Despite his peripheral role at Man Utd, Van de Beek’s stock remains high for his exploits at Ajax and Romano has confirmed that he has agreed a move to 2022 Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Romano declared: “Donny van de Beek to Eintracht Frankfurt, here we go! Verbal agreement now in place.
“Loan until June — buy option included for €15 million potential package, add ons included. It’s NOT mandatory.
“Eintracht will also pay Man Utd a loan fee.”
United take huge financial hit on Van de Beek
Man Utd are poised to lose more than half of their investment in Van de Beek with this agreement, yet the 26-year-old had become a makeweight in a squad that badly needs to lose numbers.
He was signed from Ajax in 2020 for €39m but has never looked like proving value for that figure, with his Estimated Transfer Value having slid to €7m, down from a high of €55m when he arrived at Old Trafford to such fanfare.
Van de Beek may simply be the first player that Man Utd need to cut their losses on as incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe seeks to overhaul the first-team squad and make the club competitive once again at the top of the Premier League table.
