Man Utd warned off Guirassy by club legend
Former Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre does not believe that Serhou Guirassy is the answer to the Red Devils' problems.
Erik ten Hag and company are in the market for a striker to take the pressure off young Rasmus Hojlund and to help them quality for Europe via the Premier League after embarrassingly crashing out of the Champions League.
This has seen Man Utd heavily linked with Stuttgart hotshot Serhou Guirassy, who has notched an absurd 16 goals in just 12 Bundesliga outings this term. The Guinean sharpshooter boasts a release clause of just €17.5 million for January which has piqued the interest of many of Europe's big hitters.
In addition to Man Utd, AC Milan have also been said to be keen on Guirassy, as have Dortmund, though the latter's hopes of landing the Stuttgart man have recently been dashed in the German media, with a deal being deemed unrealistic and the striker reportedly preferring a Premier League move.
There is one big concern with Guirassy and that is the fact that he has never scored as consistently and prolifically as he is doing this season - and he's already 27. There are many who believe that this is just a purple patch and former Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre is one of those people.
What did Silvestre say?
Speaking to Bettingexpert, Silvestre shared his thoughts on the Guinean and Man Utd's attacking struggles this term: "No, I don't think Guirassy has the level to play for Man United, so I would go elsewhere in terms of a striker."
"I think Hojlund will succeed at Man United, he just needs a bit more time. The dynamic of the team right now is not great, but I believe he can succeed.”
"I think it [the lack of goals at Man Utd] is a mix of the collective performance not being at their best and the team not being dominant. [Marcus] Rashford has been struggling to find his form and Hojlund was injured in the beginning. The team is not at their best collectively, so it’s difficult for the individuals to perform well.”
