Man Utd '100%' working on major defender deal - Romano
Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the contract situations of Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are facing some contract uncertainty surrounding several senior players. After supporters were rocked by the revelation that Raphael Varane is only on a guaranteed deal until the summer of 2024, with the club having the option to trigger a one-year extension, there are more worries regarding contracts.
The likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are in a similar boat to Varane, with all of their deals expiring in the summer but Man Utd having the option to extend them by a further year. Lindelof, in particular, is a major worry as he has become a key player this term in the absence of Lisandro Martinez and with Varane frequently dealing with fitness issues himself.
In the summer, the Swede appeared to be a candidate to be offloaded in order to bring in funds for a more high-profile defender, but he has since gone on to become a reliable player for Erik ten Hag, though the Dutchman remains keen on adding more defensive quality.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed what is going on with Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka's contracts.
Man Utd keen to extend
According to the transfer expert, Man Utd are keen to get both to sign completely new deals rather than just triggering the one-year extension in their current contracts. "With Lindelof, 100%," Romano told GIVEMESPORT. "They want Lindelof to be part of the project in the present and future, so I'm sure they will try to proceed as soon as possible."
"At the moment, a new deal for Wan-Bissaka is still being discussed because they wanted to offer him a long-term contract and not just trigger the option."
"It is similar to what they did with Diogo Dalot less than a year ago. They had a chance to trigger the option, but they decided to offer him a longer contract. The conversations are ongoing with Wan-Bissaka."
