Mo Salah to Saudi Arabia in January: The state of play - Fabrizio Romano
It is unlikely that Mo Salah will leave Liverpool and move to Saudi Arabia in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Salah was the subject of some huge offers from the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window.
Al-Ittihad had a massive offer of €175 million rejected by Liverpool in the closing days of the summer.
But it has been widely reported that Al-Ittihad and other Saudi sides will return to make a new bid in 2024.
Some reports have even claimed that the new offer will be a world record offer.
However, Romano says that he doesn’t see a move happening in January.
What did Romano say about Salah?
“The situation is very quiet with Mo Salah and a Saudi switch, however,” Romano said on CaughtOffside..
“Salah is fully focused on Liverpool as they’re flying in all competitions, but the Saudis still like him obviously and they still dream of Salah for their project. This is not something concrete for the January transfer window.”
The 10 most expensive Saudi transfers of all time
Neymar still holds the world record for biggest transfer of all time for his 2017 move to PSG from Barcelona.
The Parisians paid €222m in order to bring the Brazilian to the Parc des Princes, meeting the attacker’s release clause in his Barcelona contract.
Neymar, ironically, is now playing in Saudi Arabia for Al-Hilal after leaving PSG this past summer.
Given Salah will be 32 next year, it is widely believed that Liverpool would consider a sale at the end of the season.
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma for a bargain €38m in 2017 and has since gone on to become one of the club’s greatest players of all time.
He has scored 202 goals in 331 games for Liverpool, leading the club to the Premier League and Champions League titles. He has won three Premier League Golden Boots and was Premier League Player of the Year in 2017-18.
This season he has been in brilliant form, scoring 16 goals in all competition and helping Liverpool to the top of the Premier League.
