EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle considering move for Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah
Newcastle are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah, FootballTransfers has been told.
Sources have indicated that the Magpies, who are facing Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints, see Tah as a valuable addition to their squad at what could be a reasonable price.
The 27-year-old’s €18million release clause expired and will become active again next summer - though Newcastle may look to strike in the January transfer window, with it believed that the asking price will be a similar amount.
Newcastle’s interest in Tah is seen as a way of bolstering the backline that has failed them a great deal this campaign.
He has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Chelsea and West Ham both keen on bringing him into the fold before they moved on to other targets.
Eddie Howe is keen on reinforcing his squad despite financial limitations, which have made it challenging for the Magpies to pursue high-profile signings.
The 6 ft 2 inch defender has earned praise for his composure, aerial ability, and tactical awareness, helping his current side lead the way in Germany under Xabi Alonso. There appears to be no indication that he will sign fresh terms with his current while his ambition of a Premier League move is well-documented.
Who else do Newcastle see as a target?
It comes after our story revealing Newcastle’s interest in Arsenal academy graduate Reuell Walters. The club are admirers of Walters. Meanwhile, Dan Ashworth, the club’s technical director, hopes to bolster the club with some of the best young names playing in England today.
However, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is adamant about not parting ways with Walters permanently but would be open to a loan move to see his development rise.
