Romano reveals Napoli's Osimhen transfer stance after contract revelation
Napoli have no intention to let Victor Osimhen go in January, but a summer transfer remains a possibility, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Nigerian sharpshooter is on the verge of penning a one-year extension with Napoli. His current deal was due to expire in 2025, putting his side in a tricky position as they would have been forced to sell him in the summer had they been unable to agree on fresh terms.
The extension gives Napoli more of an advantage in transfer negotiations and eases the pressure to cash in on the 24-year-old. It also still gives Osimhen the ability to depart should he wish to do so because the new deal will contain a release clause in the region of €130-€140 million.
Chelsea and Arsenal have been heavily linked with Osimhen in recent months as both are in the market for a prolific, elite striker. According to Fabrizio Romano, it is likely that these two giants will be in the mix in the summer, but a move for him in January is unlikely.
Napoli won't sell in January
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert revealed: "Napoli are now stronger in their position. Napoli's position on the January transfer window remains the same: in the January transfer window for Napoli, it's not the case to sell Victor Osimhen, so they will only consider that for the summer transfer window."
"But now they feel more protected and Osimhen could also be happier because, for the next months, he will have a higher salary. The agreement is there, let's see what happens on the market. Last summer, from Saudi they were very strong..."
"Now, let's see also what happens with European clubs because, for sure, Arsenal and Chelsea both really appreciate Victor Osimhen. The player was also on the list at Man Utd last summer, but it was impossible to negotiate with Napoli. Let's see what's going to happen because the clause is there, the price is very clear, so let's see who is going to spend that money for Victor Osimhen."
