Arsenal given unexpected boost in race to sign Premier League star
Wolves appear to have found their long-term replacement for Pedro Neto, according to a report.
It is a big day for Pedro Neto news. FootballTransfers has been able to exclusively reveal that the Portuguese winger has informed the Wolves hierarchy of his intention to remain with the club until the summer despite significant interest in his services.
After the season, however, he expects to be let go to pursue a new opportunity. The likes of Man City and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, but his most active suitors have been Arsenal. The Gunners are looking for much-needed cover for Bukayo Sako and Neto would fit the bill.
In anticipation of his summer departure, Wolves have not been idle. On the contrary, they are on the verge of snapping up a potential long-term replacement for Neto, according to Portuguese media.
Wolves to sign Gomes
Journalist Bruno Andrade has revealed on X that Gary O'Neil's side are making good progress in talks with Braga over the signing of Rodrigo Gomes for next season. The 20-year-old is a right-winger like Neto and has caught the eye on loan at Estoril this term.
Gomes boasts four goals and six assists in 16 top-flight games so far this campaign and the clubs involved are naturally in no rush to bring this fruitful spell to a premature end. With Neto on the way out in the summer, Gomes would come in to take his place.
The youngster will cost Wolves €12 million, according to Andrade, though it is a risk to turn to such a relatively inexperienced player to replace your star man. Neto is enjoying his best-ever Premier League campaign and was only overtaken by Ollie Watkins atop the division's assist charts at the weekend after leading the standings for months.
