Ben Foster urges Nottingham Forest to sign 'top-class' Kasper Schmeichel
Ben Foster has implored Nottingham Forest to bring in Kasper Schmeichel in a bid to survive the Premier League.
Currently at Anderlecht, the shot-stopper is being tracked by the Midlands club who are looking to bolster their defence. The Dane’s buy-out clause is thought to be relatively low.
Schmeichel is enjoying a great spell at Anderlecht, where he has a save percentage of 77% as well as a PSxG of +0.18. Such is the veteran’s character, it’s thought that he even stayed behind to train after his side drew 2-2 against Union Saint-Gilloise.
Why Nottingham Forest should sign Kasper Schmeichel
Former Wrexham goalkeeper Foster recently spoke on his show Fozcast about his feelings towards Schmeichel, who he called ‘fantastic’. Former players Paul Robinson and Dave Watson also sung the praises of the 37-year-old.
Foster said: “One person who I think could make his way to the Premier League is Kasper Schmeichel. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. We would all like to see Kasper back. He’s up there with Ederson for me in terms of his kicking - I remember him kicking it right to my 18-yard box, thinking, ‘This is just ridiculous.’"
Robinson stated: “He was such a big character at Leicester - all he did in the background. Forest - I don't think they have the greatest goalkeeper in the world at the moment. If Schmeichel comes in, he has the right character and temperament to sort things out. He’s not fazed by the Premier League."
Watson replied: “For me, Kasper Schmeichel has over the years proven what a top-class goalkeeper he is. And Forest now need someone just like that to come in.
"Because as a defender, the most important thing is having someone behind me in goal who can command his box and is vocal. Are you seeing that with Matt Turner at Forest? Kasper Schmeichel would be the perfect replacement for me.”
