€50m striker 'one to watch' for Chelsea as Osimhen alternative emerges
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko will be 'one to watch' for Chelsea in the summer, according to a report.
The Premier League's elite was recently put on red alert as it was revealed that Sesko will have a €50 million release clause in the summer. The Slovenian wonderkid, once billed as the second coming of Erling Haaland at RB Salzburg, could very well be on the move in the next transfer window.
The youngster has not been given as much game time as he perhaps expected when he signed for Leipzig, with head coach Marco Rose favouring record signing Lois Openda over the 20-year-old. Nevertheless, Sesko has impressed in his cameos, notching seven goals in all competitions so far this term.
Perhaps due to his unhappiness about having mainly been used as a substitute, Sesko was handed starting berths in Leipzig's first two games after the winter break. However, despite putting in plenty of effort, especially against table-topping Leverkusen, Sesko failed to find the back of the net and Leipzig lost both outings.
Sesko still a wanted man
Nevertheless, Sesko remains a sought-after commodity, with Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all being credited with an interest in his services. Moreover, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Newcastle are plotting a move for the summer.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Sesko could be a viable and more affordable alternative to Victor Osimhen for Chelsea in the next transfer window. “Chelsea are still exploring strikers for January," he told CaughtOffside, "but will only move if they find the right name."
"The elite profile they are looking for is only expected to be available in the summer meaning patience may be needed. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen remains a top target for this summer. Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is another to watch and has a €50m release clause active this summer."
