Enzo Fernandez's father: My son is unhappy at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is frustrated with the club's lack of success, according to his father.

The Blues broke the bank to land then-Benfica man Enzo Fernandez in January 2023 after the Argentine had helped his country win the 2022 World Cup. The €121 million Chelsea shelled out made him the club's record signing at the time, an honour now owned by Moises Caicedo after his €134m summer move from Brighton.

However, Fernandez's time at Stamford Bridge has been anything but a success over the past year. The Blues finished in an embarrassing 12th last season and thus missed out on European football. This term under Mauricio Pochettino, things aren't looking quite as bleak, but the Blues have nevertheless been underwhelming.

Pochettino's men have been incredibly inconsistent this season and only sit in 10th in the Premier League, though they will face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final next month. Fernandez's performances have suffered as a result of Chelsea's mediocrity and the midfielder is unhappy with the current situation at the club.

Fernandez frustrated

That's at least according to his father, Don Raúl Fernández. “He feels a bit frustrated [at Chelsea] because he was always a winner, so going through these moments is not easy," Fernandez senior told ESTO.

"I tell him to stay calm, don’t read social media, keep training and things will get better. So much so that they are going to play in the final of one of the cups in England against Liverpool. Chelsea are in a moment of transition, training with young players, but I tell them to be patient, things will get better."

"It’s a young team that needs to adapt. You are always supporting him from a distance, telling him these things, thinking positively. I tell him that the team is going to make it. One more year and he’ll be fine, they’ll be better."
