Rasmus Hojlund could inadvertently bank Chelsea an absolute fortune.

The Danish wonderkid signed for Manchester United for a whopping €74 million in the summer, off the back of just one season playing in one of Europe's top five leagues. It was a fee that raised eyebrows at the time and doubters appear to have been vindicated, with Hojlund struggling to score consistently in the Premier League this term.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea looked at the fee paid for the 20-year-old and used it as a benchmark for the asking price they have slapped on Armando Broja. This week, it was revealed that the academy graduate has been put up for sale with an eye-watering asking price in excess of €50m.

Chelsea, despite their dearth of centre forward options, are willing to cash in on the Albanian, but it remains to be seen whether there is actually a club out there prepared to pay Hojlund money on a player with three Blues goals to his name.

Chelsea's unrealistic asking price

It is clear that the Blues' asking price for Broja is completely unrealistic. The 22-year-old currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €20.2m, down from a 2022 peak of €41.7m.

The Albanian striker only returned from a horrific ACL injury late last year and has thus far failed to make the most of his opportunities in a Chelsea shirt. As FootballTransfers explained on Thursday, there are a whole host of options out there who, on current form, would be better value for money than Broja.

Perhaps Chelsea are hoping that by selling Broja they can raise funds to pursue a deal for priority striker target Victor Osimhen, who has a €130m release clause. However, a January move appears incredibly unlikely, almost as unlikely as any club parting with €50m-€60m to land Broja.
