Chelsea risk losing key player Pochettino loves after latest transfer twist
Tottenham Hotspur have not given hope in their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and could make a late push to sign the England international before the January window ends.
Gallagher, 23, has been linked with a move to north London since last summer, but talk of a transfer has died down in recent days following reports that Mauricio Pochettino wants to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
Furthermore, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also now set to stay at Tottenham until the end of the season at least, as per Sky Germany, which had seemingly ended Spurs’ interest in Gallagher.
However, The Times have now reported that Ange Postecoglou’s side could make a late approach to sign the England international.
Chelsea’s valuation of Gallagher has remained around the €58 million (£50m) mark and it remains to be seen if Tottenham would be willing to pay that much if Hojbjerg remains at the club this month.
As a result, Spurs are now pondering whether to make a late push to sign the former Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion loanee.
Will Conor Gallagher leave Chelsea to join Tottenham?
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently spoke about Gallagher’s situation to GiveMeSport. “If Tottenham go there and put big money on the table, they still have a very good chance to sign Gallagher,” he revealed.
“It’s not about the timing, but it is about the money. At the moment, Tottenham are not at that stage.
“Even if we had rumours at the end of December about negotiations between Chelsea and Tottenham for Gallagher, from what I heard, the last contact between the two clubs was in August 2023, when Tottenham tried to make it happen in the final days of the summer window.
Romano concluded: “The two clubs have never spoken again about Gallagher. So, I still think this is not easy for the final days.”
Gallagher has been an instrumental member of Pochettino’s Chelsea squad so far this season and has captained the side on numerous occasions amid Reece James and Ben Chilwell’s injury lay-offs. However, the Englishman could be sold if Tottenham lodge an acceptable bid.
As a result, Chelsea could be set to lose two homegrown stars before Thursday’s deadline in the form of Gallagher and Armando Broja.
