Chelsea fans have been given fresh hope in their pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen after he was pictured hugging Blues legend Didier Drogba at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen, 25, is currently representing Nigeria at the tournament and he played 88 minutes as his nation ran out 1-0 winners over hosts Ivory Coast on Thursday.

The Napoli striker didn’t manage to add to his tally of one goal so far during the competition, however, as William Troost-Ekong stepped forward and dispatched a 55th minute penalty to seal all three points for the Super Eagles.

Before the game, Drogba approached Osimhen in the tunnel and the pair shared an embrace before the Nigerian walked onto the pitch.

Drogba, who scored 164 goals during an illustrious career at Chelsea, has reportedly spoken to Osimhen on numerous occasions as he hopes of persuading the Napoli star to move to Stamford Bridge.

After this latest exchange between the pair, Blues fans were quick to react on social media following a post from popular Chelsea fan account LDNFootbalI.

“Past and Future of Chelsea,” one user replied, while another added: “Look at the humble smile on Osihmehn's face. Agent Drogba, get this beast to Chelsea ASAP.”

A third Chelsea fan also commented: “Yep he's coming to Chelsea I'm totally convinced now.”

Speaking to BBC Africa, ex-Arsenal and Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor recently admitted that Osimhen’s next step should be to join the Premier League.

“He [Osimhen] has the right attitude, mentality and determination to excel there [in England],” Adebayor said. “I'm praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he's capable of.

“The Premier League is the toughest and best [league] in the world,” the former Arsenal striker continued.

“Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things.

“He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba.”
