Ronaldo eyes transfer reunion with former Man Utd teammate in Saudi Pro League
Cristiano Ronaldo could link up with another one of his former Manchester United teammates at Al-Nassr, with reports suggesting the Saudi Pro League side are preparing to make an approach for Aaron Wan-Bissaka before the end of the month.
The Telegraph claim that Al-Nassr are set to turn their attention to Wan-Bissaka after seeing a £20 million bid turned down for Tottenham’s Emerson Royal, although they will need to first de-register a foreign player from their squad if they wish to sign another.
United activated their option to extend Wan-Bissaka’s contract until next season in order to protect his value, with the club believed to be open to the 26-year-old’s departure for the right price.
Wan-Bissaka has forced his way into contention under Erik ten Hag, having initially being a fringe player during the Dutchman’s first season and being touted to leave the club.
The former Crystal Palace defender has made ten Premier League starts this season and played every minute of United’s last five games in all competitions.
There is also said to be interest in Wan-Bissaka from a host of European clubs, with recent reports claiming Inter Milan were eyeing a swap deal with United for right-back Denzel Dumfries.
United not willing to sell stars to Saudi Arabia without replacements
Although Wan-Bissaka appears to have made himself a trusted part of Ten Hag’s side, United’s desire to raise funds and restructure their defence means offers will be considered for the club’s high-salaried stars.
Ten Hag had previously reportedly been concerned by Wan-Bissaka’s limited ability going forward but the ex-England under-21 international has proven a reliable alternative to the more attacking Diogo Dalot, who has often been fielded at left-back.
United have so far warded off interest from Saudi Arabia in players such as Casemiro and Raphael Varane, with Ten Hag unwilling to lose any players this month without the guarantee of a replacement.
Financial fair play constraints means that United have limited potential to spend in the market and, while a sale of Wan-Bissaka would generate some flexibility, the club’s injury concerns in defence may see them wanting to keep hold of depth.
