‘GREEN LIGHT’ for England star to make January’s most surprising transfer
Bayern Munich are close to completing one of the most surprising deals of the January transfer window, with Tottenham defender Eric Dier close to joining the club.
Dier has been out of the first-team picture at Spurs for much of the season. Despite featuring for eight minutes of Tottenham’s last Premier League match against Bournemouth, that was only his fourth appearance in all competitions for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season.
The England international has started just one game since the Australian manager took charge in the summer, playing the duration of the 2-1 defeat against Wolves in November.
That has not put off Bayern from making a move for him, with Sky Sports Deutschland reporting that Dier will sign a contract that run at least 18 months and that he will cost under €5 million.
It is stated that there is a “total verbal agreement” in place for the deal and that the player wants to complete the move, having been told that there will be opportunities for him to play in both defence and midfield.
Tottenham have given the deal a “green light” and are simply waiting on Bayern to make a final decision on the transfer.
Why have Bayern signed Eric Dier?
While Dier’s switch to Bayern is likely to take many Premier League fans aback, the reasoning behind the Bundesliga giants making a move for the player is clear.
FCB have been desperately short of cover in central defence for the duration of the season, often deploying makeshift players in the middle of their rearguard.
Dier may be lacking both match time and form, but he brings with him a wealth of experience at the top level, having played in the Champions League with Tottenham and featured on 49 occasions for England.
He also has experience playing abroad, having gone through the academy at Sporting CP.
