Gio Reyna seals Nottingham Forest loan as key details revealed
Gio Reyna is close to completing his loan transfer to Nottingham Forest from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in Germany.
The USMNT star has long been linked with a temporary switch away from Dortmund this January, with Nottingham Forest and Ligue 1 side Marseille appearing his likeliest destinations.
Forest have taken the initiative in recent days and are set to complete a loan move for the 21-year-old, who has been edged out of things at BVB due in part to the arrival of Jadon Sancho, but also because he has struggled to win over head coach Eden Terzic.
Sky Sports Deutschland have detailed the exact state of play of the deal, including the loan fee and whether there is a buy option available.
Reyna to Nottingham Forest: The terms
Nottingham Forest are signing Reyna on a straight loan deal that has no option to buy and no obligation to buy. Previously, it had been suggested that there would be an option set around €15-20 million.
Instead, the Premier League club are poised to spend €1m on a loan fee for the attacking midfielder.
On top of this, Forest will cover the whole salary of the player.
Dortmund, meanwhile, remain committed to Reyna, who reportedly turned down the advances of Marseille. They have indicated this by extending his contract from 2025 to 2026, fending off suggestions that he is likely to leave the club in the summer.
Reyna has endured a miserable season with BVB. After coming back from a leg injury in September, he has failed to register a single goal or an assist for the club in 14 appearances, albeit 12 of these have come from the bench.
A 24-time capped player for his country, he registered seven goals and two assists last season as Dortmund narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title, with Reyna setting up both goals in their heartbreaking 2-2 draw with Mainz on the final day of the season.
