Romano gives Chelsea and Liverpool exciting Musiala update
Contract talks between Jamal Musiala and Bayern Munich are still on hold, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The German wonderkid has had a great start to the new year. On Bayern's emotional return from their winter break, which also turned out to be their first match following the passing of Franz Beckenbauer, Musiala notched a brace and was one of the best players on the pitch.
The youngster appeared to play with a little more freedom and swagger than had been the case for most of what has thus far been a quiet season by his high standards. Against Hoffenheim, the 20-year-old again illustrated what he is capable of and why he is one of the world's brightest talents.
A lot has been made of Musiala's future. Out of contract in 2026, Bayern are naturally keen to keep hold of one of the biggest domestic talents in decades, but there are plenty of big-name suitors out there. The likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea have all at various times been linked with the attacking midfielder.
Contract stalemate
Musiala, who spent some time in England as a child, including in Chelsea's academy, has made no secret of his desire to eventually play in the Premier League. His contract situation has, therefore, put the English elite on alert.
Bayern had been in talks with the youngster of a new deal last year, but the overhaul of their sporting management in the summer put contract negotiations on the back burner, and it seems the situation has still not changed, which can only be good news for his admirers.
“There is no update so far on a new deal for Jamal Musiala,” Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside. "Bayern are focused on the January window and so there is no news on contracts. They obviously want to keep Musiala for the long term, as their director Christoph Freund said. I see them negotiating with Musiala in the next months, and we will see how that story develops."
