Jurgen Klopp successor release clause revealed

Liverpool are considering Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim as a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp, while his release clause has been revealed.

On Friday, the shock news transpired that the German would be leaving his post after the campaign, bringing an end to nine years at Anfield.

Following this story, Correio da Manha has reported that Amorim has emerged as one of the possible candidates, but any club that wishes to sign him will have to pay his current club around €20 million.

The 39-year-old coach's current contract runs until the summer of 2026, while his tenure there has drawn links to the Manchester United job too.

Amorim took over as Sporting coach in 2020 and guided them to the Primeira Liga title in 2021 - along with a double of Taca da Liga trophies. In 189 matches under Amorim, Sporting have won 132 and drawn 27.

The Reds have already been working hard to ensure they bring in a suitable candidate in the summer. Roberto De Zerbi has been extensively linked, but the favourite is considered to be Xabi Alonso, who is currently with Bayer Leverkusen.

When did Xabi Alonso play for Liverpool?

The Spaniard, who is considered a club legend at Liverpool, is leading the Bundesliga table with his side. They are yet to lose a game across the entire campaign, while in the league they have a four-point lead over Bayern Munich.

Alonso played for Liverpool from 2004 to 2009. During his time at the club, he became a crucial part of the team's midfield. He was part of the side in the 2004-2005 season that won the Champions League, with Alonso playing a key role in the final against AC Milan.

In 2009, Alonso transferred to Real Madrid, ending his five-year spell at Liverpool, before moving to Bayern, where he eventually retired in 2017.
