Liverpool target makes final decision on Premier League transfer

Young Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier will stay in the Bundesliga at least until the summer, according to German media.

The 21-year-old versatile forward has become a sought-after commodity after putting his name on the map in the early part of the campaign, notching six goals and four assists in his first nine Bundesliga outings. Since then, he has been unable to contribute to any more goals but his talent is not in doubt.

Indeed, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, many clubs had been interested in a January swoop for Beier despite his recent dry spell. The youngster, however, has now made the decision to stay loyal to Hoffenheim at least until the summer, when concrete interest in his services will surely reignite.

Beier wants to make Julian Nagelsmann's Germany squad for Euro 2024 on home soil, which will surely have influenced his decision. He is much more likely to get regular game time in the Bundesliga than at a big-name Premier League club.

Summer target for Liverpool?

Among the many clubs that have been credited with a strong interest in Beier are Liverpool. Sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is intimately familiar with the German market and will have been impressed by what he has seen of Beier.

A January move is now out of the question, but he could be attainable in the next transfer window given that he will have a €30 million release clause in the summer. Beier's performances in the Bundesliga have certainly been impressive to the point where it seems he would be able to replicate his form in England.

Indeed, Liverpool could potentially look to Beier as a replacement - or at least competition - for Darwin Nunez. Though improved in recent games, the Uruguayan is not having a good season and the outlandish fee the Reds paid for him looks increasingly foolish.
