Saudi transfer plans for Liverpool legend Salah revealed

The Saudi Pro League is ready to launch another transfer offensive for Mohamed Salah in the summer, according to a report.

The Egyptian winger was heavily courted by the Pro League's reigning champions Al-Ittihad in the previous transfer window, but Liverpool held firm and rejected every approach for the club legend despite the eye-watering fees on the table.

There was talk that the 31-year-old could fetch as much as €200 million, but nothing ultimately came of it and the attacking sensation has continued his spectacular form for the Reds this term, notching his 200th goal for the club against Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

However, Liverpool are not out of the woods yet. Despite FootballTransfers exclusively revealing that Salah was leaning towards extending his contract on Merseyside, the Saudis have not given up hope of landing arguably the world's most famous and popular Muslim footballer in a bid to further improve the attractiveness of the domestic division.

Summer raid plotted

A move in January seems highly unlikely. There is no way Liverpool would allow their star player leave in the midst of a title challenge and there are also questions regarding the feasibility of a move from a Saudi point of view. The majority of clubs' budget allocations were spent in the summer and due to the limited number of foreigners permitted per team, big-name signings of Europe-based stars will be rare this month.

In the summer, it will be a different story, however. According to 90min, Salah "remains one of the top targets for the Saudi Pro League." It is asserted that the league's bosses will launch another transfer offensive for the Liverpool legend.

Furthermore, it is claimed that, unlike last time out when Al-Ittihad were interested, it will likely be Al-Hilal who will attempt to sign Salah in the summer. Neymar's club have a comfortable six-point lead at the top of the table and are expected to be one of the world's biggest spenders again in the next transfer window when the Pro League's foreigner limit will be eased to allow for the signing of more stars.
