Liverpool told bargain price for star who will complete Klopp's rebuild
Genoa star Morten Frendrup could be available in the summer for just €15 million, according to a report.
The Danish midfielder has won plaudits this term with his performances in Serie A for Alberto Gilardino's promoted side. In fact, the 22-year-old has been so impressive that he has reportedly caught the attention of Liverpool.
The Reds are still in the market for another midfielder to complete the rebuild that was started in the summer. With several high-profile players having departed, Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke signed Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
The problem with those signings is the fact that none of them is really a defensive midfielder in the traditional sense. Wataru Endo, the most defensive-minded of the four, certainly looked more impressive in recent weeks, before jetting off for the Asian Cup, after a difficult start, but he is already 30 years old and not a long-term solution.
Frendrup available
Frendrup, a reliable ball-winner who can feature in a box-to-box role as well as a more restrained holding midfielder, would potentially be that long-term solution.
According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Frendrup will be available in the summer for a relatively affordable fee. "I want to believe that Genoa will not sell him for less than €15 million," he told Tipsbladet. "They will probably try to get €25m to €30m, but that is likely set too high."
"He lacks the ability to score goals, and therefore I would think that €15m is a fair price for Frendrup. Genoa have sold Radu Dragusin to Tottenham, and they are not going to say goodbye to more top players this month."
"There will be interest from the Premier League and major Italian clubs [in the summer]. They like Frendrup and the fact that he never misses a game. He delivers steadily and well every single time. This is the kind of player any coach would like to have on his team."
