Long-standing Liverpool target set for surprise transfer
Long-standing Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski is on his way to Inter, according to Italian media.
The Polish midfielder is seemingly linked with a move to Anfield every year, but it looks as though Liverpool will once again miss out on him - and for good this time. Recent reports of the Reds' continued interest in Zielinski were always far-fetched given that he will turn 30 in May.
However, despite his age, he could have perhaps been a useful reinforcement for Jurgen Klopp's side due to his contract situation as he could have been available for free. The midfielder's deal is up at the end of the season and so is seemingly his time at Napoli.
Though he rejected a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, Zielinski will depart the reigning Serie A champions after all just a year later. According to Corriere dello Sport, a free-transfer move to Inter is all but done.
Zielinski set for Inter
The report asserts that an agreement in principle between Inter and the player has already been reached and all that's left are some formalities. Zielinski, it is claimed, is ready for a new challenge after contract talks with Napoli hit a dead end.
The likes of RB Leipzig, Juventus, West Ham and other English clubs were reportedly keen on his signature, but the current Serie A leaders ultimately won out.
Zielinski has been a key player for Napoli and one of Serie A's best midfielders for several years, hence his repeated links to Liverpool. The midfielder scored a brace against Klopp's Reds in the Champions League in 2022.
Inter are also said to be close to the signing of rumoured Man Utd and AC Milan target Mehdi Tahremi, who has only notched three league goals for Porto in 15 games this term. Last season, he hit 22 in 33 matches.
