Van Dijk uncertainty forces Liverpool to get creative
Liverpool are interested in Tosin Adarabioyo, according to a report.
The Reds could be in for another unexpected transfer revolution in the summer. After completely overhauling their midfield in 2023, Liverpool may be forced into rejigging their defence in 2024.
Jurgen Klopp has shockingly announced that he will depart the club at the end of the season, casting major doubt on the futures of many of Liverpool's biggest stars. This doubt was further fuelled by the recent comments of captain Virgil van Dijk, who is out of contract in 2025.
Speaking in the wake of Liverpool's FA Cup victory over Norwich City, the Dutchman was inevitably asked whether he would be part of the post-Klopp era: “That’s a big question. Well, I don’t know,” Van Dijk responded. Upon being reminded that he has only 18 months left on his current deal, the Dutchman said: “That is correct – good maths. Listen, I don’t know.
"The club will have a big job on their hands, that is well known. To replace the manager and replace not only the manager, the staff is leaving, and there are so many things that will change. So the club has a big job on its hands and I am very curious which direction that will go in."
Reds eye Tosin
While Van Dijk could yet remain at Anfield for one more season, the same can't be said of Joel Matip, who is out of contract in the summer and currently nursing an ACL injury. Though Klopp has previously expressed his hope that "the club will do the right thing" and hand him a new deal, there is no guarantee that the 32-year-old will still be around come next season.
A replacement will need to be brought in and, according to the Daily Mail, that replacement could be Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo. The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and there is a growing expectation that he will depart Craven Cottage.
The Man City academy graduate was recently courted by AC Milan, but a January exit from the Premier League seems unlikely this late in the transfer window. It is asserted that Tosin is highly thought of at Anfield, therefore Liverpool's rumoured interest is unsurprising.
